One of my favorite scenes from Firefly. For those who do not remember: Simon and River were kidnapped. (By hill folk, as Jayne calls them.) Because River is River, the hill folk decide that she should be burned as a witch. Simon is willing to be burned with her, to his credit. Then Serenity appears over them, Jayne and a big gun angrily hanging out of the ship. Mal: “Looks like we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?” Zoe: “Big damn heroes, sir.” Mal: “Ain’t we just.” During the episode are also a number of things to enjoy: “Post-holer. For digging holes for posts.” Said twice to Simon by two different characters. Cows and their poo. Shepherd Book gets shot. Etc., etc.
You may think I’m lost as to the purpose of a review. I’m not. See, I know the entire episode line for line. And I still enjoy watching it, as well as the rest. Plus the movie. I love the whole thing just as much as I ever did, years and years ago. Yet, in the geekiest of shops devoted to geeky things, a Firefly candle is a rarity. I had to buy this. I didn’t have to like it. But I do. I love it, actually. Even with the cardamom (which I hate), it has a great quality of scent that can fill the room with happy. It isn’t a “pretty” scent, nor is it bland. But it does elicit compliments by people who are unaware that I have a candle out. It feels quite homey to me. Truly, I thank you for creating this Firefly/Serenity scent and for its being actually great.
